A homeless man in Brazil has a new lease on life after recently receiving a makeover. His heart-warming story shows how just one small change can make a world of difference.
It all began when 45-year-old João Coelho Guimarães walked into a shop, according to Unilad. With an unkempt look and his hair overgrown, Guimaraes had been down on his luck after living on the streets for the past several years. Instead of doing the bare minimum and giving him what he asked for, the owner of the salon jumped into action.
Alessandro Lobo, the owner of the men’s fashion store and barber shop that Guimarães walked into, saw something in the homeless man. He initially asked the man if he was hungry and wanted food. After the Guimaraes declined, Lobo decided he could do what he does best.
“That was when we decided to help him in a different way, providing a day of beauty for him,” Lobo said.
Lobo groomed the homeless man’s beard, hair and mustache. He completed the look by gifting Guimarães with new shoes, pants, and other new clothes.
When the pictures of Guimarães went viral, something even more unexpected happened. He was recognized on social media by his mother and sister, who had assumed he was dead after not hearing from him for 10 years. They quickly planned a trip to see him in the bustling Brazilian city of Goiânia, as soon as they could.
“They saw the photo and contacted me, and since he doesn’t have a phone or a fixed address, tomorrow we will go through the neighborhood to try to find him,” said Lobo.
The turn of events has been heartwarming to see for the shop owner, who has unintentionally reunited an estranged man with his long-lost family.
“It is Christmas time and the intention was to show that with a little we can change someone’s life… We did not imagine that it would have this result,” said Lobo.
